The Kumbo Municipality, located in the North West Region of Cameroon, was officially created in 1977, following the disintegration of the Nso Area Council, which was part of the South Western Federation of Native Authorities. Originally, Nso was governed by traditional leaders, and the head of the Nso Fon, Sehm Ataar, oversaw a council composed of the Fons of neighboring areas such as Oku, Mbiame, Nseh, Nkar, and Ndzeen. The Nso region’s colonial history dates back to the 1940s when it was grouped with other regions into the Bamenda South Eastern Federation of Native Authorities. However, in 1960, Nso split from this union, and in 1961, the Nso Area Council was officially formed under the administrative structure of a Sub-Division.
